The other day was Malia's first ballet lesson at the new ballet studio. She and I were both very excited!When I was 11, we lived here in Utah and I was a party girl in Ballet West's Nutcracker that year. I've been kind of in love with Ballet West ever since. You can imagine my delight when Malia started expressing interest in Ballet...and then Ballet West in particular, after seeing their production of the Nutcracker in December! Elated!!! My hands were tied. I had to sign her up.
Well, it was "parent watch week", so my mom and I were going to be able to watch. We showed up early and the director of the academy walked us over to where her class would be and pointed out that in the studio next to it, was the Ballet West company dancers practicing! He opened the door and sat Malia down at the entrance so she could watch them...and so could we. It was very cool!
Her class was not exactly the caliber of the rehearsal we'd just seen, but it was great nonetheless! She really seemed to "get it". I was so happy. I watched her and wondered what lay in store for her. Maybe she'd be a ballerina some day. All I know is that I'm proud to be her mom. I love her and have to pinch myself to see if I'm dreaming sometimes because she's really everything I ever wanted in a daughter.

Good for her! My mother was a ballerina, and I know she was intensely disappointed when not one of her four daughters inherited her body (long and lean) or her love for ballet. She still dances around the kitchen sometimes speaking French (her teacher was a very graceful, strict French woman). How wonderful that both Malia (and her mother) gets to live out her dreams!

It is the best feeling as a parent to watch your child do something that they absolutely love. She is such a beautiful girl and how can she not be with you as her mom. Love the pic, too beautiful!!

What a sweet post! Malia is beautiful. She looks like a perfect ballerina! Tess is the ballerina in our family. And I love it.
